Can I place a DTF logo over a seam or pocket?

Check the exact item on the press before you choose the logo size. A design can fit within the visible space while a seam, pocket or fastening changes the pressure underneath it, so the usable press area can be smaller than the space you see. Confirm the usable area, then review the final dimensions, quantity and price per transfer for that configuration.

Why do seams, pockets and zippers matter?

Seams, pockets and zippers can change how evenly pressure reaches a transfer, and the settings that matter belong to the transfer material. That is a reason to check the setup before sizing the artwork, not to compensate with an arbitrary hotter or longer press.

Measure the usable print area before choosing a reference size

Start with the exact garment, not only its size label. Mark where the design should appear, locate seams, pockets, closures and thick areas, then check the usable area with the person who will press it. The clear space you see and the area that can be supported and pressed are not always the same.

• Visible design area: where you want the logo to appear.
• Construction obstacles: seams, straps, pockets, closures and thick folded areas near that position.
• Usable press area: the region the operator can support and press evenly with the available setup.

Front, back, left chest and sleeve

Keep these placements separate. On the front, check the available panel and any pocket or closure. On the back, account for the collar, hood and construction of that garment. Left chest means the wearer's left. For a sleeve, identify the side and check its actual clear area instead of borrowing a body-panel measurement.

Youth and smaller garments need their own measurement

Reference guides also use width-led examples: 7.5–9.5 inches for youth designs and 6–7 inches as a toddler starting range. These are width references, not age-based fit guarantees. They do not supply a fixed height; preserve the artwork's proportions and check the actual garment.

Separate the reference box from the artwork and the quote

A design fitted inside an 11 × 11-inch reference box is not necessarily an 11 × 11-inch design. A narrow wordmark can occupy less height than a square logo at the same width. Do not stretch the design or silently crop it to match the box.

Check whether the uploaded file has empty transparent margins. Record the visible artwork size, the complete file boundary and the final dimensions used for the quote. Those dimensions need to be clear before approval; the illustration alone does not establish the charged area.

Make a size check and keep a placement record

A paper check at actual size can help you judge the intended placement on the garment. It does not test the transfer, fabric or pressing result. Keep the garment model and size, placement and side, artwork revision, approved width and height, quantities and the operator's usable-area confirmation together.

Front and back artwork represent two transfer placements. Record each size and quantity separately rather than treating one shirt as one transfer.

What should I check on the item before I order?

Check five things on the real item:

1. Put the exact blank, not a similar one, in front of the person who will press it.
2. Mark the position you want and measure the width and height of the logo you have in mind.
3. Look for seams, straps, pockets, closures and thick folded areas inside or beside that position.
4. Ask the operator how much of the area they can support and press evenly with the available setup.
5. Write down the approved position and size, and keep that note with the artwork file.

Pockets and zipper tapes add layers and edges, so treat them like seams: check them on the real item rather than assuming from a photo.

What if the logo does not fit the usable area?

Change the position, reduce the design or ask about another suitable setup before ordering.
