DTF vs inkjet transfer paper: compare the work behind a finished shirt
Share
Compare equivalent deliverables
Blank inkjet transfer paper and a printed DTF transfer are different starting points. With inkjet paper, someone must supply a compatible printer, print the design, prepare the shape and apply it. Ordering a printed DTF transfer moves the printing step to the transfer supplier; garment selection and application still need an assigned owner.
A low price for blank paper is therefore not a complete finished-shirt quote. Compare the steps and materials each option actually includes.
Look at the background as well as the artwork
Inkjet transfer papers are product-specific. Avery offers different products for light and dark fabrics; its dark-fabric transfer retains a white background. How the transfer is trimmed matters to the shape visible on the shirt. Do not assume a transparent area in a digital file makes every printable transfer material transparent.
For a DTF order, make intended white artwork and unwanted backgrounds clear using the artwork guide. Judge the approved design at its final size on the chosen garment color.
Use a complete-work checklist
- Before printing: confirm the garment material, color, design dimensions and intended background.
- During preparation: identify who prints, trims where required and checks the result.
- During application: follow the exact product instructions. Transfer305’s pressing guide is not an instruction sheet for another manufacturer’s inkjet paper.
- Before the full run: approve the actual applied result and the care instructions for that combination.
A hypothetical small-order comparison
For 8 shirts with separate lettering, compare the work needed to preserve the intended spaces between letters, not just the price of a rectangular sheet. Record printing, preparation and application separately. No universal break-even quantity follows from this example.
To price the printed-transfer route, send Transfer305 the design size, garment details and count, then select the appropriate DTF ordering option.
