DTF graphic or woven label: which fits exterior branding?

A DTF graphic is a printed design applied to the garment with heat. A woven label is a separate textile component whose design is formed with interlocking colored threads, attached by sewing or with a heat-attach option. Choose a DTF graphic when the brand mark should be printed on the fabric, and a woven label when you want a sewn tab with a visible edge.

For an exterior brand mark, compare the complete appearance on the garment. A sewn tab with a visible edge is a different design choice from a printed graphic on a fabric panel. This comparison concerns decorative branding, not replacement care or product-information labels.

What types of woven labels are there?

A woven label is made on a loom, and its design is built from colored threads. Label suppliers offer styles such as damask, satin and cotton. Labels can be cut straight or folded, for example as an end fold or a center fold, and the fold decides which part stays visible and which part goes into the seam.

Attachment is another decision. A label may be specified for sewing or supplied with a particular heat-attachment option. Sewing is the common route for garments. Your label supplier specifies the styles, folds and attachment options available.

How much design can each one carry?

A woven label builds its image from thread, so the weave, the label size and the number of thread colors limit how much detail it can hold. A DTF graphic is printed, so it can carry full-color artwork, gradients and fine detail, within the limits of the artwork and print size.

Why is the visible area smaller than the label?

With a woven label, the supplier’s template must account for folds and sewing space. Parts of the component may be hidden in a seam or reserved for stitching. Keep lettering out of those areas according to the actual template.

With DTF, specify the graphic’s printed dimensions and check that the proposed garment area is accessible for the application. The artwork guide helps prepare the file, and the pressing guide belongs with the confirmed transfer.

Hypothetical size comparison: imagine a label blank that is 40 mm wide, with 5 mm reserved at each side for sewing in the chosen template. The remaining width is 30 mm. A logo that needs 35 mm of visible width would not fit that plan unchanged. The 40 mm component width is not the same as 40 mm of available artwork.

How do cost and order size compare?

Woven labels are quoted by the label supplier, so ask for the price per piece and any minimum order for your template, fold and attachment. Sewing is a separate task. We do not quote woven labels.
