Freezer-door graphics: specify which side of the glass

“Glass” is only part of the specification

A graphic on the customer-facing outside of a freezer door and one mounted inside the cold compartment are different jobs. Before selecting a decal, show exactly where it will attach and from which side people should read it.

A specialist article hosted by Drytac distinguishes these outer and inner applications and the conditions they face. It also cautions against assuming that the glass surface has the same temperature as the freezer air. The actual mounting surface matters.

Draw the mounting side and the viewing side

Our recommendation is to send an annotated photograph showing the glass, handle, intended graphic area and viewer position. State whether the image is read directly from the applied side or through the glass. Do not use “inside sticker” as the whole brief.

Ask the graphic supplier to confirm how the proposed construction will read from that position. Reversing an artwork file alone does not establish the suitability of the adhesive, printed layers or backing for the application.

Describe the operating conditions

• Surface: identify the door and any known glass coating.
• Exposure: describe condensation, cleaning and customer handling.
• Installation: obtain the supplier's requirements for the actual surface condition.
• Removal: specify whether the graphic is promotional or intended to remain.

Have the installer and material supplier resolve unanswered conditions before production. An adhesion result on ordinary room-temperature glass is not evidence for every freezer-door position.

Approve the graphic in its intended position

Imagine a store approves lettering from the printed side, then plans to mount it behind the glass for customers outside to read. This is a hypothetical example. Review the construction and reading direction before ordering, then evaluate the proposed material in the real position under the supplier's guidance.
