Screen-printed, hybrid or DTF: identify the transfer in the quote

“Ready to apply” does not identify the production method

When every supplier offers a transfer you can apply later, the important first question is which transfer product the quote actually specifies. Do not assume that a screen-printed transfer means sending your garments out for direct screen printing, or that every full-color transfer is DTF.

Ask for the complete identity of each option

Our recommendation is to record the supplier, product name, transfer family and proposed garment together. Ask which artwork version the quote covers and whether changing colors or artwork creates a different order specification. Get the actual answer for the selected product rather than applying a general assumption about screen printing.

If a quote only says “full-color transfers,” request the missing product identity before using its application instructions or accepting a substitute. A clear description makes a later reorder easier to evaluate.

Compare the same intended result

  • Artwork: confirm the approved detail, color treatment and final dimensions.
  • Application: obtain the instructions for that exact transfer and check your equipment against them.
  • Garment: keep the exact style, color and decoration area in the approval record.
  • Reorder: identify which elements must remain the same and what requires a new review.

A substitution example

Imagine a repeat job was approved using one transfer family, and a new quote proposes another. This is a hypothetical example. Keep the original artwork and garment specification, but ask for review of the replacement transfer as its own product. Do not treat the original application settings as transferable approval.

If the replacement requires a simplified graphic, obtain approval for that change. If the original appearance is essential and the alternative has not been evaluated, keep it unresolved rather than calling the two options equivalent.
