UV-DTF Cup Wraps: Sizes, Placement and Care for Glass Cans and Tumblers

Quick answer: UV-DTF cup wraps are full-color stickers that apply to glass cans and tumblers without a heat press. Measure the flat wall of your cup, keep the wrap at least 3/4 inch below the rim, rub it down firmly and peel the carrier slowly. Transfer305 prints custom UV-DTF cup wraps in Miami from $2.22 each, with no minimum.

Cup wraps are part of the UV-DTF sticker family (also searched as DTF stickers). The design prints with a clear background, so only your artwork stays on the cup. That printed-on look is why cup businesses, online sellers and event planners use them.

What UV-DTF cup wraps are

A UV-DTF cup wrap is a printed decal that sits on a clear carrier film. You lay it on the cup, rub it down and peel the carrier away. What stays on the cup is your design in full color, including white.

  • No heat press, no oven and no special coated blank
  • Made for smooth, clean, hard drinkware such as glass cans and tumblers
  • Full color, gradients and fine detail with no background around the design
  • One wrap or hundreds, with no minimum order

UV-DTF cup wrap sizes

Published wrap sizes vary from seller to seller, so measure your own cup before you order. Measure the width around the straight part of the wall, and the height of the flat area between the bottom curve and a line 3/4 inch below the rim.

Cup Typical wrap size listed online What to check
16 oz glass can About 9.25 x 4 in to 9.5 x 4.3 in Width around the straight wall
20 oz glass About 9.33 x 5 in Height below the rim
20 oz skinny straight tumbler About 9.3 x 8.2 in Seam and lid line
40 oz glass About 11 x 7 in Taper toward the base
40 oz tapered tumbler with handle A front decal sized to the flat area Handle position

A tapered cup is wider at the top than at the bottom, so a straight rectangle will not lie flat all the way around it. On those cups, use a front decal, a front and back pair, or a wrap that stops before the handle.

Designing a cup wrap that prints clean

Good wraps start with a good file. A few rules keep the printed result sharp on glass:

  • Build the file at the exact wrap size, in inches, with a transparent background.
  • Aim for around 300 pixels per inch at final size when you use a photo or raster art. Saving a small image as PNG does not add detail.
  • Keep any white you want printed, such as white lettering or highlights. Remove only the background that should not print.
  • Keep small text and thin lines a little away from the edges of the wrap.
  • On clear glass, your design sits on a see-through background, so test how light and dark colors read against the drink inside.

Our artwork requirements cover file setup in more detail.

Where to place a cup wrap

Keep the top edge of the wrap at least 20 mm (about 3/4 inch) below the rim. That top band is called the lip and rim area in glassware decoration rules (ASTM C927, used in California Prop 65 settlements). Placing the wrap below it keeps the print off the part of the cup people drink from.

  • Avoid seams, handles and the curve at the base.
  • On a tapered cup, center the design on the flattest section.
  • Put the meeting point of a full wrap at the back of the cup, opposite the main design.

How to apply a UV-DTF cup wrap

  1. Wash and dry the cup completely, then wipe the area so it is free of oil and dust.
  2. If you want a guide, put a strip of tape 3/4 inch below the rim.
  3. Separate the clear top film from the backing slowly, so the design stays on the clear film.
  4. Start at the center of the design and lay it onto the cup.
  5. Work outward toward the edges slowly, rubbing as you go so it grabs evenly around the curve.
  6. If a bubble appears, lift that section gently, lay it down again and rub.
  7. Rub the whole wrap firmly one more time, then peel the carrier slowly and smoothly, keeping it low and close to the cup.

Let the wrap settle before the first wash. Many sellers recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours.

Is UV-DTF dishwasher safe?

Most UV-DTF sellers say hand wash only and not dishwasher safe, and every source we checked that mentions microwaves says no. Our recommendation is simple: hand wash decorated cups with mild soap and a soft sponge for the longest life, and keep them out of the microwave.

What custom UV-DTF cup wraps cost

You pay by area. UV-DTF by size is $0.06 per square inch, and UV-DTF gang sheets start at $0.04 per square inch on 23-inch-wide sheets.

Ordering cup wraps for resale

If you sell cups, put all your designs on one sheet. Use the UV-DTF gang sheet builder for a fixed 23-inch sheet, or the rolling-canvas builder when the number of wraps sets the length. Need only a few? Order UV-DTF by size.

Every wrap is printed in a G7 Master Qualified facility, a measured color process built for consistent color from one reorder to the next. Still deciding on a method? Read UV-DTF vs sublimation for mugs and tumblers.
