UV-DTF vs direct UV printing for branded objects

Compare the object’s journey

Direct UV printing places the object in a suitable printing setup. UV-DTF separates printing from application: the graphic is printed on transfer media and later applied to the object. Roland’s direct-to-object range and its UV-DTF system illustrate that distinction. Shape alone does not decide: both equipment access and adhesion on the actual finish matter.

The buyer’s practical question is where the objects are now, where they can be decorated and who will handle them. This comparison does not imply Transfer305 offers direct UV printing.

Compare four parts of the job

  • Access: can the printing provider reach the intended area with its equipment? For a transfer, can the operator position and apply it on that area?
  • Handling: count packing, transportation, unpacking and inspection of the objects.
  • Application: transfers still require labor. Include positioning and checking every piece in the schedule.
  • Finish: ask for a representative result on the same coating. A photo of a different object is not compatibility evidence.

Hypothetical example: 40 rigid presentation boxes are already at the assembly location. Compare moving the boxes to a direct printer with receiving transfers and applying them there. Record labor and handling for both routes; no universal cheaper option follows from the quantity.

Two routes for 40 boxes: move them to a direct UV printer, or receive UV-DTF transfers and apply them on site.

Choose the route after checking the surface

The UV-DTF guide explains the surface information to prepare. Send dimensions, photographs and intended use through Transfer305 contact when compatibility is uncertain. If transfers fit, choose the corresponding UV-DTF ordering route.
